How is my data being used?

When you sign up, we ask for the basics: who you are on paper (name, email, date of birth, and so on) so you can log in and we know which account is yours. We also try to get a feel for who you are as a person and what interests you as part of the onboarding process.

After that, almost everything we collect is something you wrote in a letter or jotted down in your storybook. We use this information solely to run the platform and tailor the experience for you.

We do not sell or share your data with any third parties nor do we use your data for advertising purposes. We do not run third-party analytics trackers or try to follow you around the internet. We are not in the business of profiling you for anyone else.

Is my data secure?

All communication to and from our servers is protected via end-to-end encryption. That means if a bad actor intercepts your data, all they would see is scrambled text. Furthermore, your password is stored as a hash so we do not even have the ability to read it.

Our databases that store all information are in a secure data centre that we own within Perth, Western Australia. If you want us to delete your account, you can simply do this through the Data Management section within your profile. Deleting your account wipes your profile, letters, stories, and all the other records tied to you. It is immediate and permanent.

In addition, all functions and features within the platform are self-hosted, meaning we do not rely on any third party companies to read or process your data and requests.

No system is perfectly immune to a breach and we would be wrong to pretend otherwise. We remain committed to continuously enhancing our cyber-threat monitoring capabilities.

Does this platform use AI?

Yes, but not in the way you might think. Our AI models and agents live only on our local servers that we own within Perth, Western Australia, meaning your data never passes through the likes of ChatGPT or Claude for reading or processing. We use AI for various features within the platform all in the name of improving your experience. In the spirit of transparency, below is the full list of all such features that use AI in the background:

Writing Guide - Before a letter is sealed, potentially personal identifying information or language that does not meet our terms of use is flagged and you will receive a custom message requesting that you amend this.

Dictate and Read Aloud - Turns speech into text, and text into speech. Once dictation or reading aloud is complete, any voice record is immediately deleted. You joined to express yourself in your own voice; we are not building a profile of your voice.

Can others see my profile?

No. The platform is completely anonymous by design, so you can write freely without any pressure to perform.

When another person reads your sealed letter on the Community page, the only thing they see is the title you chose for your letter and its content. No name, no email, no location pulled from your profile.

In addition, there is no public or private direct feed between people on the platform, no profile pages other people could visit, and no way for anyone to look up your account.
